The
keys to evoke change and create success
are unique to each of us. Are you using your keys to create success? Keys
are behaviors and competencies within each of us that are carried out
as if without thought. You use a unique set of keys to engage in
your day to day challenges
to handle all situations. I'll call
this your "key ring".
Just as there are keys to your success, there are also keys that lead
you to failure. These are commonly referred to as derailers because they
take us off course. Nevertheless, both types of keys reside within each
of us. You must take a look at your key ring and identify the useful
and non-useful keys.
Understanding both
"sets" of keys is crucial for you to create success. When opening
the door of opportunity, make sure that you are choosing the right key.
For example, useful keys might
look like
detail orientation, determination, or the ability
to see the good in people, while non-useful
keys could show up as procrastination, impatience,
or choosing to be liked rather than choosing to do what is right.
Here
is your challenge:
- Take a piece of
paper and draw a line down the middle. List your useful
keys on one side and non-useful
keys on the other side.
Please take a few
minutes to think this through.
- After you've created
the 2 lists, take the top 10 and prioritize them from strongest to weakest.
#1 representing the strongest moving toward the weakest.
Now, I want you to do 3 things:
First, reflect on
the last 24 hours. How many times did you use these keys? Were you successful?
Did you achieve the desired outcome in the situation?
Then, over the next
24 hours, pay close attention to yourself. Notice what keys you
are using in every situation. Again, did you achieve the desired result?
Review and reflect
about the use of your key ring
over the last 48 hours. Are you using some keys more than others? Are
you choosing to use them or are you on autopilot?

P.S: The real challenge is for you to see if you are dedicated
enough to do it.
